Iloilo’s cultural heritage showcased in Google Cultural Institute

The University of the Philippines Visayas has partnered with Google to launch a collection featuring Iloilo’s numerous heritage structures on Google Cultural Institute, a virtual museum that aims to “preserve and promote culture online.”

The Iloilo heritage mapping project spans the pre-colonial period to the 20th century, and features places and structures including Miagao Church, Jaro Cathedral, Molo Church, the first City Hall, the River Esplanade, and the Baluarte Elementary School (the first public elementary school in the country).

“The Philippines has such a rich culture to be proud of. Every city and every province has something to show off and the Cultural Institute aims to make all these available to everyone in a format most accessible to them—digital. This is our effort to educate and inspire future generations,”  said Dennis Dizon, Google Cultural Institute Program Manager.
