This is what a dying star looks like

The US' National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and European Space Agency (ESA), using the Hubble Space Telescope, have managed to catch the last moments of a dying star.

According to NASA, the death of a star lasts tens of thousands of years. The death of this particular one has resulted in the planetary nebula of NGC 6565, which was formed after stellar winds pushed away the star’s outer layers, exposing the star’s core.

After being exposed, the core’s radiation “excite(d) the surrounding gas to varying degrees and causing it to radiate in an attractive array of colors.” — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
