A weakened baby scops owl was rescued by a family in Bauang town in La Union, after it landed on their house.

Genevieve Raguindin and her family briefly kept the owl in the house to feed it, GMA Dagupan news stringer Vic Alhambra Jr. reported Friday.

The Raguindin family noted the owl appeared weak and had difficulty flying.

Mrs. Raguindin said they contacted GMA and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office about the owl.

PENRO head Samuel Songcuran said their initial findings showed the owl is less than a year old, as shown by its short wings.

The PENRO also took custody of the owl so it can be nursed back to health.

It said the owl is an endangered species, and thanked the Raguindin family for taking care of it, and to GMA for its advocacy to preserve wildlife. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
