Nathaniel “Mang Tani” Cruz was one of the recipients of the Achievement Award during the 82nd National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) General Membership Assembly and Scientific Conference on March 11 at the Philippine International Convention Center.
The award was given in recognition of Mang Tani’s “research contributions to and productive activities” concerning climatology and climate change, applied meteorology, and vulnerability assessments.
According to the NRCP, Mang Tani promoted meteorology and elevated weather reporting to a more scientific level in his work with GMA, helping Filipino laymen to appreciate weather conditions and hazard preparedness.
The NRCP Conference also underscored the drafting of an R&D policy recommendation on the roles of water, food, and energy in inclusive development. According to the NRCP, these three resources are at the center of decision- and policy-making to ensure security and sustainability.
“The WFE nexus approach precludes unilateral action in addressing issues in water, food, and energy. It has become a buzz phrase in recent global policy discussions, foremost of which is the United Nations,” said NRCP President Filemon A. Uriarte, Jr.
Mang Tani has been as active regular member of the NRCP’s Division of Earth and Spaces Sciences.
