240 boxes of endangered budjong shell seized in Cebu

Some 240 boxes of endangered marine species were seized in Cebu province Thursday afternoon, the provincial government said.

The boxes were seized by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Bureau of Fisheries and Natural Resources and the National Bureau of Investigation.

"An unnamed informant gave PENRO a tip of a shipment from Zamboanga carrying the budjong shells. The search warrant was issued by Judge Sylva Paderanga of RTC Branch 28," the provincial government said.

It noted the shipment of such endangered shells is prohibited under the Fisheries Code of 1998. — Joel Locsin/LBG/TJD, GMA News
