IM Ready: ‘Ilang bagyo ang inaasahan ngayong 2014?’

"Ilang bagyo ang inaasahan ngayong 2014?"

You'd have to look at 20 years worth of statistical weather data in order to come up with the credible estimate, and that could be overwhelming.

Lucky for you, GMA's IM Ready team summarized the data and featured the answer in this bite-sized two-minute video.

Voiced by IMReady Public Service Group Chief and climate change expert Dr. Carlos Primo "CP" David, the video looks back 20 years and comes up with the average number of typhoons expected each year.

"Ang daming statistical data na kailangang ma-lagay in layman's terms (kaya namin ginawa ang video na ito)," David said in an interview with GMA News Online this week.

The video is the first of many other videocasts that the IM Ready team will make.

The second one, which will be released towards the end of the month, will answer and even bigger question: "Magkakalindol ba ngayong taon?"

The next videos after that will tackle other topics such as El Niño, the impact of typhoons on the economy, epidemics, and traffic, David said in a text message.

The IM Ready Public Service Portal consolidates information from the Metro Manila Development Authority, the Department of Transportation and Communications, the Metro Rail Transit Authority, Philippine National Railways, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Other sources include PAGASA and hazard data assessment effort Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards). — Kim Luces/JDS, GMA News
