In her own words: Lovi Poe

The world of show business is saturated with press releases and clever spins; rarely do we hear actors and actresses speak candidly. In an exclusive interview on the GMA-7 program "Tunay na Buhay," actress Lovi Poe opened up about her childhood, her tattoos, and the lasting impact her late father, action star Fernando Poe Jr., left on her career and life.

On being one of the boys
“[My childhood was] very typical. When I was a kid, I was really, really boyish. There was one time that my mom got mad at me because when I came home, nakabukas ang blouse. Natakot siya.”

On her relationship with her mom, actress Rowena Moran
“We’re very close. I consider her to be the one who really taught me everything. Of course, may stage in your life where you just disobey her, pero dadating yung point na malalaman mong tama siya.”

On the impact her father FPJ has had on her career
“We weren’t really close, but I’m just thankful that he was very supportive. He was a good father. I’m thankful he’s my dad and I love him very much…Masarap yung pakiramdam na pag pumupunta ako sa trabaho, lahat sila walang masabi kundi magaganda about my dad. Yung pagmamahal nila kay papa, parang binibigay rin nila sa akin.”

On her childhood dreams
“Bata pa lang ako, all I wanted to do was sing and be onstage. I remember the turning point of my life when I realized I wanted to be a singer. I was in a pizza place and mayroon akong friend na pinakanta in front of everyone. As I was watching her, iniisip ko, sana ako din! Lagi akong may dalang minus one!”

On the rumors about her past relationships
“I used to get so upset—hindi ako pikon, pero ma-pride akong tao. It’s very important for me that I stand on my own. [I’m not involved with anyone right now] but I’m really enjoying myself. It’s nice to have that life alone. I’m happy this way.”

On the simple joys of life
“[I like] having my time alone, pahinga, early pack-up lang—sobrang simple lang! Being with my family and friends. The simpler the better.”

On her tattoos inspired by her father
“This one says ‘gravity.’ He pulls me back to the ground. This one says ‘wings,’ because he makes me fly. And then this one says ‘quiet child’ because not a lot of people know our story.” — Cristina Tantengco/CM, GMA News
