Almost all industries have grappled with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic including the sector of the most important basic necessity -- food. Restaurants have closed, countless jobs lost and incomes were severely affected. Based from the preliminary numbers from the Department of Labor and Employment as of August, close to ten thousand businesses have closed across all industries, displacing a total of 180,000 workers. The food services top the list with close to 2,000 establishments’ ceasing operations and affecting almost 20,000 workers. In terms of losses, restaurants were also hit the hardest after suffering the sharpest dip according to reports.
After almost 20 years of operations, Baguio City’s Forest House known for its home-cooked meals closed their doors permanently.

Special focus will be made to show the situation of food producers as they carry and transfer products, the establishments which survived and thrived during this time and the consumers who have altered the way they shop after resorting into online order or home deliveries. The special food documentary will also show stories of people who were laid off but found new hope and have now become food entrepreneurs as well as celebrities who have launched their own food business during quarantine.

May mga nawalan ng kabuhayan at trabaho. Ayon sa pinakahuling datos ng Department of Labor and Employment, tinatayang nasa sampung libong negosyo ang nagsara, dahilan para mawalan ng kabuhayan ang mahigit 180,000 manggagawa. Sa bilang na ito, pinaka-apektado ang food services. Halos dalawang libo ang mga nagsara at malapit sa dalawampung libo naman ang nawalan ng trabaho. Ang restaurant business din ang pinakanalugi ayon sa ilang ulat.
Sa maraming patuloy ang operasyon, kinailangang sumabay at sumunod sa tinatawag na “New Normal” para makahabol sa mga pagbabagong dulot ng pandemya. May mga nagpalit ng menu, marami ang lumipat sa online deliveries at takeouts na mas tinatangkilik ngayon ng maraming konsumer. Sa isang iglap, binago ng pandemiya ang industriya ng pagkaing Pilipino.
Ngayong Setyembre, inihahandog ng GMA News and Public Affairs ang ‘LOCKDOWN: FOOD DIARIES”, isang napapanahon at makabuluhang dokumentaryo na tatalakay sa mga epekto ng pandemiya sa iba’t ibang sektor sa industriya ng pagkain. Ipapakita ng dokumentaryo ang kalagayan ng mga nasa food sektor kabilang na ang pinagmumulan ng mga produkto, iba-ibang establisimiento hanggang sa mga mamimili sa ilalim ng New Normal. Ibabahagi rin ang kuwento ilang ordinaryong mamamayan at maging ng celebrities na nakahanap ng panibagong pag-asa sa industriya ng pagkain sa pamamagitan ng pagbebenta ng sarili nilang mga produkto.
