Katipunan episode VIII
Mock Trial and Murders
Airing date: December 14, 2013
10:15 PM, GMA-7

He founded the Katipunan, recruited its members, and set the stage for the first widespread revolt against Spain. But he will not die in battle. He will die at the hands of men he called brothers.

History, as taught in most history classes is vague on the sham elections, mock trial, and murders of Andres Bonifacio and his brothers Ciriaco and Procopio. It is said that our immaturity as a country is rooted in our failure to hold accountable those who were behind these crimes, which happened when we were forming our nation.

Betrayed and humiliated at the Tejeros Convention, Andres and his group begin their trek home. But the victors in the polls are not to about to let go of their newfound power. The newly-minted president, Emilio Aguinaldo, dispatches a team to arrest the Supremo.

The arresting team find the Supremo and his group in Limbon, in Indang, Cavite. Unaware that he is a wanted man, Andres invites them to breakfast.

The men later pretend to leave but they double back and disarm the men guarding the Supremo. In the melee, Ciriaco Bonifacio is killed. The Supremo is stabbed in the neck as he pleads with his “brothers” for calm. A Katipunero saves him from death by standing between him and his attacker.

The group is later herded to Maragondon, Cavite. There, a mock trial is held.

The Supremo is accused of several crimes, among them that he organized the Katipunan on orders of Spanish officials, that he stole money from the movement, and that he and his men stole work animals from the people.

The jury is composed of men loyal to Aguinaldo. Worse, the man tasked to defend the Supremo does more to make his client look guilty.

The trial lasts for days but the Supremo and Procopio are barely fed. Andres’s neck wound becomes gangrenous but he is not given medical treatment. They are locked up in a small room under the stairs, and later, a toilet. Oriang is barred from seeing him.

Days later, a team headed by Gen. Lazaro Macapagal leads the Bonifacio brothers to Mt. Buntis. There, the death sentence is read to them.

Oriang begs the executioners to tell her where her husband's remains are. They ignore her pleas. She spends months looking for her husband's remains.

Katipunan’s cast is led by Sid Lucero as Andres and Glaiza de Castro as Oriang. Benjamin Alves stars as Sebastian and Nico Antonio is Emilio Aguinaldo.

Created by Program Manager Jaileen Jimeno and written by Ian Victoriano, the historical docudrama is directed by King Mark Baco. Production work is led by Program Manager Nowell Cuanang and Executive Producer Jayson Santos. It is being filmed using Sony Cinemaalta F3 cameras provided by Solid Video.
