KMJS’ story on “The Woman Slashed on Her Face” who finally got justice, named finalist at the 2021 NYF

Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’s (KMJS) story on “Babaeng Tinaga sa Mukha (The Woman Slashed on Her Face)” is a finalist at the prestigious 2021 New York Festivals (NYF) “World’s Best TV and Films” Competition.

The two-part episode is one of the six contenders from the Philippines competing against nominees from other countries. GMA Network is the Philippine’s frontrunner yet again with five short-listed entries this year.

“The Woman Slashed on Her Face” is vying for a Medal in the Documentary: Social Justice category and tells the harrowing story of a woman named Celia who was slashed on her face by her husband. Aired last June 2020, the story shed light on domestic abuse and how cases of gender-based violence further increased during the implementation of the community quarantine in the country at the height of the pandemic.

A few months after the said segment aired, Celia finally got justice. Her husband was arrested by the police. KMJS aired the second part of the story in November 2020. The episodes were produced by Sancia Novie Palma.

KMJS host and GMA News pillar Jessica Soho expressed her gratitude to the New York Festivals for recognizing the story of Celia, underscoring the importance of airing stories like this. “Voices like Celia must be heard. Her story must be told, to empower other victims of abuse to stand up for their rights. Thank you to the NYF for this nomination and congratulations to Team KMJS,” said Soho.

In the 2019 NYF, KMJS gave the Philippines one of its four World Medals after earning the Bronze World Medal for its “Salay'' feature in the Community Portraits category. Earlier on, the primetime giant was conferred with Finalist Certificates for the segments “Batang Scallops” (Human Interest category), “Photographs of Typhoon Pablo” (Best Reporter category), “From Saudi with Love” (Human Interest category) and “Gintong Medalya (Community Portraits category) in 2008, 2014, 2015, and 2017, respectively.

Winners of this year’s NYF will be revealed on October 12 in Las Vegas.

Online, KMJS continues to dominate various platforms. It is currently the most followed Philippine TV program on Facebook with over 23 million followers.

Catch Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho every Sunday night, now on its earlier time slot at 8:25 p.m. only on GMA Network.
