KMJS makes waves introducing Filipino stories to the world

Proof of its universal appeal, GMA's Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) recently made waves internationally, as foreign media outlets picked up a number of the show's stories.

International TV news magazine program 60 Minutes Australia last week featured a story produced by KMJS about Filipino-Australian Joel de Carteret’s search for his biological mother.

Thirty years after getting adopted by an Australian couple who brought him to their homeland, Carteret returned to the Philippines and found his mother with the help of KMJS.

Liam Bartlett, one of 60 Minutes Australia’s hosts, interviewed Jessica Soho, who the show proclaimed was the “Philippines’ answer to Oprah.”

Last February, New York-based social news and entertainment company BuzzFeed posted an article featuring Soho’s exclusive interview with Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen, who had been introduced to four Filipinas who had been named after her.

In April, The New York Times posted an article discussing a scientific study on giant shipworms in the Philippines, providing a YouTube link that led to the uploaded KMJS segment about Sultan Kudarat's shipworms called "tamilok."

The KMJS segment helped spark discussion among local and international scientists, and developed their interest to pursue intensive research on the creature.

Aside from the recognition by the international media, KMJS continues to be well-loved back home, as the program ranked number 1 in the Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) ratings of AGB Nielsen from June 5-11, 2017.

It maintains a large social media following, with almost 7 million followers on its Facebook page.
