IN PHOTOS: Outstanding teacher receives surprise from Jessica Soho

Having worn more clothes than she can count from her career spanning 30 years, veteran broadcast journalist Ms. Jessica Soho has always donated some of her wardrobe to charity and to her staff. It was, and still is, the better thing to do than let them go to waste inside her closet.

This year, Ms. Soho and the "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" staff thought of a creative way to find her old clothes a new home. Utilizing the program’s social media accounts, the staff devised an online promo that left thousands of women wanting to own a part, however small, of Ms. Soho’s wardrobe!

But of all who commented on the thread, one request stood out. Follow the story here:

SWEET 16. These blazers worn by Ms. Soho during her newscasts were creations of top-caliber Filipino designers like Francis Libiran and Nat Manilag. Photos of the 16 items of clothing were uploaded to the "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" Facebook page for the online “auction.”

NEARLY VIRAL. KMJS Facebook followers were asked to comment who they want to give the clothes to, or why they deserve to receive it. The album itself was shared more than 600 times. 1,450 comments were left on the thread -- excluding the likes, comments and shares on each individual photo. Deciding whose was the best comment was admittedly difficult!

THE GOOD SAMARITAN. Teacher Rhodita Rivera from Quirino High School in Quezon City left a comment in the thread saying that if anyone should get the clothes, it should be her co-teacher, Cecille Paguia. “She is a dedicated teacher and a kind-hearted person not only to her co-teachers but also to her students,” Teacher Rhodita said.

OUTSTANDING. Teacher Cecille Paguia was recently recognized as the “Most Outstanding Head Teacher of Mathematics” in Quezon City. Even after 25 years of teaching, rarely did she buy herself nice clothes to wear during important ceremonies.

JUST A NORMAL DAY. Teacher Cecille had no idea that Teacher Rhodita left a comment on the KMJS Facebook thread. She was busy teaching geometry to her Grade 9 students when…

SURPRISE! … Ms. Jessica Soho walked into the room. The students and Teacher Cecille couldn’t believe their eyes!

TAKE YOUR PICK. Ms. Jessica Soho asked Teacher Cecille to pick two items from the rack as a prize. Still in a state of shock, Teacher Cecille said “Sa akin premyo na si Ma'am Jessica na nandito siya e.”

A SLEW OF THANK YOUS. Teacher Cecille endlessly thanked her good friend and colleague, Teacher Rhodita, for “nominating” her in the promo. As a sign of gratitude, Teacher Cecille asked Ms. Soho if Teacher Rhodita could take a pick off the rack as well. Ms. Soho jokingly called it as “exchange gift.”

PINK, GRAY, BLUE! Ms. Soho was busy helping Teacher Cecille and Teacher Rhodita with fitting some of the clothes while the students in the background screamed for their preferred color and style. With the KMJS team was a dressmaker who could take their measurements and have the clothes altered.

“SAAN MO GAGAMITIN ANG MGA DAMIT?” Teacher Cecille recounted how difficult it was for her to buy clothes. “Dahil mahirap lang kami, usually ang damit ko, pinaglumaan na polo shirt ng kuya ko o kaya ng tatay ko,” she shared. "Tapos tatahiin ng nanay ko ‘yun para maging blouse ko.” Because of Ms. Soho and Teacher Rhodita, the outstanding teacher now has something to wear for their school’s graduation rites.

UNFORGETTABLE.  “Maraming salamat, nagulat talaga ako. Hindi ko ito makakalimutan!” Teacher Cecille exclaimed as she, Ms. Soho and Teacher Rhodita posed for the camera. The teachers can have the altered blazers in just a few days!

THANK YOU, MA’AM JESS! Others who joined the campaign were also happy to receive Ms. Soho’s new clothes. Maraming salamat po, Ma’am Jessica! ---Princess Daquigan, BMS
