Three tales of horror: 'Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho' Halloween Special

Horror stories are everywhere in the Philippines.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), not every tale gets the chance to be rendered into films where the characters are more alive, more real, and more frightening.

This year, on All Soul’s Day, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” offers its viewers a scary treat: three of the scariest horror stories were transformed into visual masterpieces under the hands of the industry’s top-caliber directors. Gabi ng Lagim II is the compilation of true-to-life stories that are guaranteed to keep you awake well into the night!

Don’t believe us? Here’s proof:
Under the direction of Topel Lee, Delubyo tells the story of a group of volunteers who were stranded inside an office building. It was 2009, Typhoon Ondoy was wreaking havoc outside while inside, the volunteers gathered around a single lit candle, telling stories.

The stories stopped as one of the volunteers, Benjie, who earlier said he has a third eye, supposedly saw ghosts coming down the stairwell. Though slightly creeped out, the other volunteers still chose to spend the night inside the office -- and then the countless horror stories began; starting with a lady who just would not stop weeping and a shadow child with red eyes out for some “fun.”

Exclusive behind-the-scenes trivia: Direk Topel Lee enlisted the help of the actress playing the White Lady for an on-the-set prank. During a scene where the actors were only supposed to glance up and see the White Lady staring back at them, Direk asked her to attack! The look of sheer terror on their faces was priceless!
Every campus has its own horror story. Directors Aloy Adlawan, Rodney Junio, and Romabell Yumol weaved together stories from independent “eyewitnesses” to tell the tale of a 7-foot tall man with black skin and a fedora hat.

At a university in Manila, someone (or something) living in a mango tree had been haunting the school, appearing in different occasions, to different people. It even went as far as introducing himself: “Ako si Allan."

He supposedly haunts the Mass Communication and Nursing buildings in the university. While not harming anyone (yet), Allan is notorious for appearing in unexpected times and in unexpected places -- do not be caught off guard!

Exclusive behind-the-scenes trivia: The interview with one of the eyewitnesses had to be stopped at one point because the segment producer saw a lady standing near the stairs at their location. Both she and the eyewitness felt cold after. Creepy!
The story of the Balete tree is not entirely a new one but Direk Rember Gelera strived to give this story a different look. For one thing, it is set in Laguna -- one of the most mystical provinces in the country.

Balete tells the story of a tree in Mabitac, Laguna which supposedly houses engkantos and several otherworldly creatures. Here, residents believe that vehicular accidents and suddenly disappearing children are caused by one thing: a “friend” from the other side of the Balete tree -- the magical side responsible for modern-day nightmares.

Exclusive behind-the-scenes trivia: While shooting within the vicinity of the infamous tree, the show’s director of photography felt something sharp, like a fingernail, scratch his back. This happened twice -- once when he was approaching the Balete, and another when he was standing at the exact same spot where a woman was rumored to be burned.

Three tales of horror in one scream-filled night: Gabi ng Lagim II is part of #KMJS10 -- the “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” 10th year anniversary special!
