Bago magka-pandemya, nasa tatlong daang libong komyuter ang tila araw-araw na nakikipag sagupaan sa mga lansangan ng Maynila. Pero dumoble ang bilang na ito ngayong taon dahil na rin sa balik on-site work na ang iba. Mas marami na ang nakikipagsiksikan at nakikipag-unahan kaya mas pahirapan lalong makasakay.

 

Mula San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, araw-araw na bumibiyahe papuntang Ortigas, Pasig ang beinte nuwebe anyos na si Kamille. Pagod na sa trabaho bilang Marketing Staff, mas pagod pa siya sa biyahe pauwi. Nakikipagsiksikan sa MRT, nakikipaghabulan sa mga bus, at nakikipagbalyahan sa mga kapwa komyuter.

 

 

Tila may forever naman daw sa biyahe ni Theresa mula Carmona, Cavite papuntang Malate, Manila kung saan siya nagtatrabaho bilang isang accounting assistant. Araw-araw, apat na sakay ang kailangan niyang bunuin at pitong oras ang inuubos niya sa biyahe papunta't pauwi. Dahil pasado alas onse na nang gabi nakauuwi, ibinibilin na lang ni Theresa ang dalawang anak sa kanyang ina.

Before the pandemic struck, there are about 300,000 commuters in Metro Manila who rush and push their way into trains, public utility jeeps, and buses. But this year, this number has ballooned to more than double – making the situation even more difficult for the commuting public.

Every day, 29-year old Kamille travels from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan to Ortigas, Pasig where she works as a Marketing Staff. This includes surviving a crowded MRT ride and chasing buses with fellow commuters who want to secure a seat.

All the way from Carmona, Cavite --- Theresa travels to Malate, Manila where she works as an accounting assistant. Every day, she rides 2 jeepneys, a bus, and the LRT. All in all, Theresa spends seven hours on her daily commute. And because she usually gets home past the hour of 11, she entrusts her two kids under the care of her mother. How does Theresa manage to overcome these daily struggles as a commuter?

Does the government see a solution for this worsening situation that Theresa, Kamille, and hundreds of thousands of commuters go through?
