'Tao Muna sa Tawiran', dokumentaryo ni Howie Severino, ngayong Sabado sa I-Witness

I-WITNESS HOWIE SEVERINO
“TAO MUNA SA TAWIRAN”
FEBRUARY 22, 2020

It seemed like an ordinary evening after dismissal for seven high school students in Makati. Assisted by a traffic enforcer who stopped vehicles coming from opposite directions, the teens felt safe in the pedestrian crossing as they engaged each other in animated conversations.

What happened in an instant changed their lives forever, and ended the life of their 13-year-old schoolmate. It was just the latest in a series of recent horrific tragedies where motorists ignored the meaning of a pedestrian crossing.

Howie Severino and his documentary team dissect the anatomy of the Makati crash as a way of understanding how reckless driving has become a leading cause of death for Filipino youths, many of them just innocently crossing a street where they’re supposed to be protected.

They learn that compounding the deficient infrastructure and dog-eat-dog mentality on city streets is a common ignorance among drivers of the meaning of many signs that say “Ped Xing.”##
