The mighty Mekong River…the longest river in Southeast Asia, the 12th in the world, flowing to almost 5 thousand kilometers, it traverses 6 countries- China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Millions of people depend on it, from agriculture, fishing to tourism.  Residents say, the river is not only important to us, it’s our life.

On the 18th anniversary of I-Witness, Sandra Aguinaldo crosses the border from Vietnam to Cambodia through the Mekong river. She will explore Vietnam’s unique Mekong Delta with its diverse attractions—rowing through the tight canals of Anhkanh, tasting the goods from Can Tho’s floating market, and visiting the enchanted flooded forest of Tra Su.

In Cambodia, in the capital Phnom Penh, she gets on a smaller boat to get to know the silk weavers of Kho Dach Island, whose families have been working on the looms for 500 years.

Ang sikat na ilog Mekong ang pinakamahabang ilog sa buong Southeast Asia, at ika-labindalawa sa buong mundo.  May haba itong halos limang libong kilometro na tumatawid sa anim na bansa mula China, papunta Laos , Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, hanggang Vietnam. Milyun-milyong tao ang umaasa rito mula sa agrikultura, pangingisda, at pati turismo. Kuwento ng mga taga roon, hindi lang mahalaga ang ilog Mekong, ito ay buhay nila.

Sa ika-labinwalong anibersaryo ng I-Witness, tatawirin ni Sandra Aguinaldo ang ilog Mekong mula Vietnam patungong Cambodia. Gagalugarin niya ang mga lugar sa Mekong Delta sa Vietnam para tikman ang mga paninda sa makasaysayang floating market ng Can Tho, babaybayin ang makitid na Anhkanh canal at bibisitahin ang tinaguriang enchanted flooded forest ng Tra Su.

Pagdating sa Phnom Penh sa Cambodia, bibisitahin niya ang isla ng Koh Dach o Silk Island para kilalanin ang pamilya na limang daang taon nang nabubuhay sa paghahabi.

Samahan si Sandra Aguinaldo sa isa na namang hindi malilimutang paglalakbay sa “Biyaheng Ilog Mekong” sa espesyal na timeslot ng I-Witness, ngayong Linggo, pagkatapos ng Bossing and Ai sa GMA.
