They are nimble and tough. They push their bodies through hours of rigorous training. They retire at night black and blue. And every morning they wake up without any fear of blood. They are fighters. Theirs is a war of stamina, even if their bodies have barely matured. They are not even at the peak of their youth… but these fighters have all anchored their future on boxing.

In “Suntok sa Pangarap”, Kara David met nine-year-old CJ Pores and his two older brothers. Every day, the child boxers train at their backyard with their improvised boxing equipment made of cloth, their boxing gloves held together by masking tape. Their father Leonardo hopes that they can someday make it to the Cagayan De Oro Boxing Team which has trained many amateur and professional boxers from Misamis Oriental. But even the CDO Team has not been spared of the risks of the sport. They have already lost one of their own in a boxing match.

Punch after punch the child boxers continue on with their goal to be the best fighter. Is their dream worth every bit of the pain? Maliksi at malakas. Kaya nilang puwersahin ang kanilang katawan hanggang sa kaduduluhang segundo ng pagsasanay. Bago matulog, sila’y puno ng pasa. At wala silang agam-agam na maduguan ang kanilang mukha kinabukasan. Sila’y mga mandirigmang walang panangga kundi ang kanilang mga kamao. Hindi sila umaatras sa laban ng palakasan, kahit mura pa ang kanilang katawan. Sila ay mga batang boksingero- musmos pa kung tutuusin, ngunit handang sumuntok at mabugbog masungkit lamang ang kanilang pangarap.

Sa Misamis Oriental, nakilala ni Kara David si CJ Pores, siyam na taong gulang na boksingero. Kasama ang mga kanyang mga kapatid, sinasanay siya ng ama gamit ang mga sira-sirang gloves at punching bag na gawa sa katsa. Pangarap ng kanilang amang si Leonardo na makasama sila sa Cagayan de Oro Boxing Team, kung saan nagmula ang maraming amateur at professional boxers ng kanilang probinsya. Ngunit hindi maikakaila na kahit saan ka man magsanay, laging may aksidenteng kaakbay ang boxing. Kayanin kaya ito ng mga batang boksingero?
