"Larawan sa Ulap": An 'I-Witness' documentary by Howie Severino
“LARAWAN SA ULAP”
Dokumentaryo ni Howie Severino
May 31, 2014
Most of us take photography for granted, empowered to take selfies any time, anywhere. Photos are proof of our existence and identity.
Yet there are still entire communities where photos are a luxury, photograpers are aliens.
Nestled in the clouds that shroud Mount Pulag in Benguet, Barangay Bashoy is like that.
Enter Juan Portrait, a group of photographer adventurers on a mission - to give school children ID photos of themselves for the first time.
They want to do this in Mt. Pulag Primary School shortly before the opening of classes so the kids finally have IDs with their proud faces.
What does a simple ID photo mean?
What is the effect on a community of not having a visual record of its culture, history and concerns?
In searching for the answers, Howie and his team will travel harrowing roads, explore a breathtaking upland environment, and meet rosy-cheeked kids like 10-year old Ambit, whose tresasured faded photo of her mother preserves a sorrowful story.
This Saturday, experience a place which may be technology-deprived but is blessed in other ways, in “Larawan sa Ulap” on I-Witness.
I-Witness airs every Saturday 10:30 PM on GMA-7 after Celebrity Bluff, with replays every Tuesday 10:30 PM on GMA News TV.
