GMA animated anthologies, showcased in MIPCOM 2018

GMA Worldwide, Inc., content distribution arm of GMA Network takes part in the Philippine pavilion in MIPCOM 2018, the world's biggest entertainment content market. The Philippine pavilion highlights the country's animation industry by bringing together content creators and showcasing Filipino-produced animated content. Among the programs highlighted in the Philippine pavilion are GMA animated anthology 'Alamat' and animated live-action series 'Sirkus' and 'My Fairy Godmother (Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko).'

The pavilion was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in cooperation with various animation and content companies from the private sector.

Also part of the highlights in the pavilion is "Barangay 143," the Philippines' first-ever anime series premiering on October 21 on GMA and features the voices of top GMA artists. "Animation is one of our strengths, and one of the shows we are promoting here is Barangay 143 which demonstrates our country's love for basketball," said FDCP executive director, Wilfredo Manalang.

The Philippine pavilion aims to promote the country's creative industry in the international arena. "The Philippines has traditionally been seen as very strong in terms of providing services, but we also have great content creators," said DICT Undersecretary Monchito Ibrahim.

The country's creative industry has been recognized as a potential export sector that can drive economic growth and job creation. "Over the past few years, we've been increasingly collaborating with the private sector and have reached the conclusion that MIPCOM is the best place for our home-grown talent to showcase their skills," said Anthony Rivera, assistant director of DTI's Export Marketing Bureau.
