They discover that many of the young Aetas who should be in school were sent to work as domestic help for well-off families. In exchange, their parents receive a live animal every year, plus food and shelter for their children. Nine-year old William should be in a grade 3 classroom but Kara meets him instead on a farm. He tends to the cows of his employers. William prefers his life now, as he gets to eat rice and meat everyday. But after being mocked as an Aeta by his neighbors, he has decided to renounce his heritage. Award-winning writer Kara David and gifted videographer Kikoy Rapadas join Sine Totoo’s Howie Severino to discuss the discrimination and virtual slavery experienced by these Aeta children, given away at a young age by their own parents. “Mga Batang Hiram" was awarded as the Outstanding Feature for Television in last year’s La Sallian Scholarum Awards. Watch it this Saturday night on Sine Totoo.
