BORN TO BE WILD
February 23, 2020
The seahorse can hide behind the crevices of corals to protect itself from predators. But oftentimes, they still end up being caught for the illegal wildlife trade. In Bohol, Doc Nielsen discovers that seahorses are still dried and sold as traditional medicine. Globally, millions of seahorses will continue to face threats to their population if the trade remains unchecked.
Snails, frogs, and rice eels are some of the invasive species found in farms. Here, they battle each other to survive. Though often unnoticed, there are farm lands that host a fight between alien species every day.
Shrimps and crabs have a reputation of being “dirty” for being bottom dwellers. The Born team observes their behavior in the wild and documents a much dirtier threat surrounding them: man-made pollution and garbage.
