Philippine slow loris and giraffes on ‘Born to be Wild’

BORN TO BE WILD
December 1, 2019

In Tawi-Tawi, an elusive primate called “kukam” can be found. Kukam, in turns out, is the local name for the Philippine slow loris. Unlike other primates found in the Philippines such as the tarsier and the macaque, little is known about the slow loris. Doc Nielsen and the team get word about a kukam being kept as a pet. The resident wants to release the animal back into the wild but does not know where to bring it. After coordinating with the local DENR office, Doc Nielsen and the Born team work on returning the slow loris to its natural habitat.

Some places remain close to the heart. Doc Ferds goes back to where it all began—in Calauit Island, Palawan. The island, where Doc Ferds documented his first story for Born to be Wild, remains memorable. Today, Doc Ferds is on a mission to check on a pregnant giraffe and another with a painful wound on its leg. But before Doc Ferds can treat the towering and powerful animals, their wild instincts pose a challenge.

Begin your December with Born to be Wild this Sunday, after AHA!
