Snakes in the city released back into the wild
Unexpectedly finding a snake inside your home, especially if you live in a major city, can be alarming.
But experts say these reptiles that pop up in urbanized areas were likely displaced from their own habitats.
In an episode of GMA Public Affairs show "Born to Be Wild" aired Sunday, animal wellness export Doc Ferds Remio went to a wildlife center in Palo, Leyte to see if three pythons that were found in different areas in Tacloban City were ready to be released back into the wild.
Two of the large snakes were in good health, including one that was discovered lurking in the ceilings of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, and another which was rescued from the side of the road in Barangay 72.
The release of the third python, however, had to be delayed as it was suffering from a retained spectacle.
"Napakahalaga kasi na in-tact and well-functioning yung kanilang mga mata because ito 'yung device nila to look for food, to escape their predators and to defend itself," Remio said.
"Ito 'yung mga kailangan nila to survive in the wild." — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
