Elephant poaching on 'Born to be Wild'

BORN TO BE WILD
APRIL 28, 2019

Aside from poaching, habitat destruction, and human conflict, elephants around the world face a new problem. Studies by experts in Africa revealed that certain populations of elephants have stopped growing their tusks. Experts say that this is a type of genetic alteration due to widespread poaching for ivory. Doc Nielsen Donato films these elephants in Africa.

Around Asia, Doc Ferds encounters the Asian elephant. Also under threat of hunting and habitat loss, some elephant populations now only number in the hundreds. While they count among the largest creatures on land, even their size and strength is no match to how humans have altered the planet.

Join Doc Ferds and Doc Nielsen on their journey to document the joyful, and at times heart-breaking, encounters with these amazing giants. BORN TO BE WILD airs Sunday, April 28, right after AHA!
