'Born to be Wild' features Philippine sailfin lizards and reticulated pythons
BORN TO BE WILD
January 20, 2019
Doc Ferds visits a cave in Samar where the population of the endemic Philippine sailfin lizard or ibid thrives. Some years ago, the Born team was fortunate enough to capture the sailfin lizard’s amazing ability on camera—how it “walks” or runs on water.
They attempt to film the same ability in this new location, but discover something else. Apart from meeting several sailfins in all sizes, and documenting the animal’s predatory skills, the team also discovers an area where baby sailfins are being bred: a rare lizard nest!
In Negros Occidental, not all rescued animals remain in rehabilitation centers forever. Some are lucky enough to make it back to the their natural habitat. Doc Nielsen and the local DENR release healthy reticulated pythons back into the forest. But testing whether or not these snakes are still fierce enough to fend for themselves doesn’t come without a few scars for our wild vet.
