Amazing tarantulas and snake venom on 'Born to be Wild'

Airing date: July 26, 2015

While trekking the mountains of Catanduanes, Doc Nielsen sees an animal covered by tree leaves on the ground. Locals call it the ibingan. Some residents say they’ve been bitten by the ibingan, which is actually a kind of tarantula. Doc Nielsen observes this majestic creature in the wild.

The Philippines is home to a wide variety of snakes, including venomous species. But the only anti-venin currently available in the country is for the Philippine cobra. Doc Ferds takes us through protective measures against snake bites and tackles what can be done to support anti-venin research in the Philippines.
