Enter mysterious shipwrecks on 'Born Impact'
SHIPWRECKS
They are mysterious, deep, and rich with history, both tragic and heroic. These characteristics attract us to shipwrecks.
This Sunday, Born IMPACT dives the most beautiful wrecks from the World Wars, and discovers why we need to preserve them.
Doc Ferds Recio dives wrecks from the American-Japanese war, and even finds a Spanish galleon, a ship used for both trade and military applications. It is said that galleon crewmen were known to perish because of the long periods often spent at sea and the poor conditions on board.
Romi Garduce, meanwhile, dives in Coron, Palawan, known as a shipwreck paradise. The wrecks made it to the Forbes Traveller Magazine’s top 10 best scuba diving sites in the world.
Here he sees Akitsushima, a Japanese seaplane carrier, which is as long as four basketball courts and as heavy as 2,500 cars! Romi witnesses traces of war, how a bomb had split the ship in two and uses this split as passage to get inside and see what other artefacts were left.
Mariz Umali also visits Malapascua to dive a wreck that is so deep, only technical divers can reach it. Lying at 52 meters, the ship was said to be “preserved” or “frozen in time”. Because of its depth that no metal salvager can touch it. Mariz also tries to unlock the mystery of this deep ship’s identity.
