Komodo Dragons and Sumatran Tigers on 'Born to be Wild'

BORN TO BE WILD : Indonesia

“Komodo Kingdom” and “Sumatra’s Last Man-Eater”

Part 2 this Wednesday, January 16

Komodo Kingdom

The Komodo Dragon is among the last ancient reptiles that still roam the planet, and Doc Nielsen Donato has long dreamed of seeing and studying this fascinating beast. In Indonesia, the wild vet is surprised to see a sleeping giant lizard that is bigger than him!  Doc Nielsen Donato has finally encountered the biggest monitor lizard in the world. But contrary to warnings that these dragons run after humans, the team finds that they are able to film them at close range.  Doc Nielsen learns why the first dragons they encounter seem docile. They are more familiar with tourists and were once fed by humans. Later on, Doc Nielsen meets Komodo Dragons in the wilder parts of the island and realizes why they are called king of all lizards.

Sumatra’s last man-eater

Doc Ferds Recio starts his investigation on stories about the “man-eater” of Sumatra.  Locals tell him how they came face to face with the Sumatran Tigers that threaten their community.  Besides the villagers, the tiger is also recorded to have attacked workers in a palm oil plantation where an 18-year-old was recently mauled by a tiger.  A cell phone video from one of the workers shows a tiger roaming around the plantation, showing that humans and tigers are now living in very close proximity. To better understand the behavior of tigers, Doc Ferds joins experts from WWF-Indonesia in setting up cameras in the area. Although a known predator, the Sumatran Tiger is the last of its kind in Indonesia and has become critically endangered. Decades of poaching has brought these tigers to the brink of extinction. Will Doc and the team get a glimpse of the wild tiger?

Don’t miss the second part of Born to be Wild Indonesia this Wednesday after Saksi.
