The Vets Are In: Born to be Wild's 5th Anniversary Series comes to a close

“THE VETS ARE IN”   Born to be Wild’s 5th Anniversary Series

 Finale airs Wednesday, October 31

BORN TO BE WILD   Finale of “Sabang Dragon” and “Cobra Country”

  Wednesday, October 31

“COBRA COUNTRY”

In Mindanao’s lush countryside, Doc Nielsen and his team are in search of the longest venomous snake in the world – the King Cobra. Reports have reached the Born team of King Cobra attacks in some parts of CDO, Bukidnon and Davao. According to witnesses, the King can “stand up” and face its opponent, and in some cases, these face to face encounters have proven fatal to residents.

Doc Nielsen Donato and his team have spent days mapping cobra sightings in hopes of providing useful information for the production of antivenin. And as the team’s journey reaches its end, the King finally makes an appearance. Together with an expert from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITMM), they finally get the venom they need to begin research into life-saving medicine that could help those who live amongst these majestic snakes.

Born to be Wild also visits a King Cobra facility in Thailand, where researchers seek to study how people and venomous snakes can live side by side.

“SABANG DRAGON” In pristine Sabang Island in Palawan, people flock to see the world-famous Underground River. But few people know that another wonder exists right on Sabang’s shores – the newly discovered varanus palawanensis, an endemic species of monitor lizard which can be found only in Palawan.

In fact, hundreds of new species have been named in the Philippines in the last few years alone. And if these trends continue, more can be discovered in what some experts say is an “underestimated” Philippine biodiversity.

Doc Ferds Recio and Doc Glen Rebon prepare to release a Varanus Palawanensis back into the wild.

As Born to be Wild reaches its milestone fifth year, a promise is renewed – to continue to discover, to explore, to protect and preserve our environment and its wildlife.

THE VETS ARE IN. Catch the thrilling series finale this Wednesday, October 31.
