Doc Ferds Recio off to another adventure. When the program Born to be Wild was launched in November 2007, a new face on television was also born. Veterinarian Ferdinand Recio, now more popularly known as Doc Ferds, made his TV debut on the wild safari of Calauit Island in Palawan . Together with Mt. Everest Summiteer Romi Garduce, Doc Ferds explored remote, pristine environments in the Philippines and later became a household name as the go-to guy for wildlife rescues. Doc’s life has certainly changed since joining the show. In this special episode, he recalls how his life shifted dramatically – from quiet clinic work to the rough and tough field work that has become his life for the past three and a half years. Today, Doc Ferds’ work as an on-call vet already fits him like a glove. This resident vet’s life involves getting emergency calls at 2 a.m. and packing his bags in a matter of minutes to respond to stranding and other wildlife emergencies. Living the advocacy is non-stop and Doc recalls sometimes finding himself shuttling from one province to the next with barely enough time for a change. But it is a life which he embraced. The wildlife veterinarian has aided numerous animal rehabilitations and rescue missions from wounded pythons in rescue centers to trapped mantas in fish cages and stranded marine animals. Spending days and nights in the wild outdoors, Doc has also led us on several expeditions to discover and observe new species that are endemic to the country. Doc Ferds has indeed proven his passion and dedication for the cause, even in the most difficult situations. Today, Doc Ferds is set to embark on a new adventure. He will take a leave from the program to pursue higher studies abroad. But viewers and fans need not worry because the wild vet is sure to continue his advocacy on wildlife protection and conservation. For certain, Doc Ferds Recio was and will always be – BORN TO BE WILD. Don’t miss Doc Ferds’ greatest moments on Born to be Wild’s special send off episode, airing this Wednesday, July 6, after Saksi. Plus, catch a sneak peak of the upcoming Born Expeditions: Thailand & South Africa with Kiko Rustia and a special guest host, coming this July.
