‘AHA!’ fans welcome summer with Drew Arellano
Summer is definitely more fun with ‘AHA!’ GMA’s top-rated science education program rewarded six of its most loyal fans with an AHA-mazing summer adventure at La Mesa Eco Park and Ark Avilon Zoo. On the February 17 and March 3 episodes of ‘AHA!’ viewers were invited to count the number of times a pop-up video of Drew would appear on screen. The first three viewers to share their correct answers on AHA!’s Facebook page and Twitter account were given the exclusive chance to visit an AHA!’s taping and meet host Drew Arellano!
The set visit winners, Gener Lucas, Yyna Virata, and Julius Salvador, of the February 17 episode welcomed summer with Drew at the La Mesa Eco Park. Meanwhile, winners of the March 3 episode, Hidee Donque and Michael Mejia, spent the whole morning with their animal friends at Ark Avilon Zoo.
Nineteen-year-old Julius Salvador is a B.S. Information Technology major at the Pateros Technological College. Every Sunday, Julius watches ‘AHA!’ together with his siblings.
“I like watching ‘AHA!’ because every segment they air is very educational,” he said. “‘AHA!’ is a very big help to my brother who is seven years old, and for us also to be able to know about things.”
As for his favorite episodes, Julius enjoyed watching ‘AHA!’s’ adventure in Borongan, Eastern Samar, in which the crew searched for bones rumored to belong to a giant, and Maey B’s attempt at flying via Subic’s famous hydrojet.
Gener Lucas, a 17-year-old BSBA-Human Resource Development Management student from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, loves watching ‘AHA!’ because of the lessons he learns from each episode.
“Nakakadagdag sa general knowledge ng mga manonood. Lalo na ‘yung mga hindi naituturo sa school,” he said. (‘AHA!’ adds to general knowledge of the viewers, especially lessons that aren’t taught in school.)
Other than learning new things, Gener also tunes in to ‘AHA!’ because the show equips him with knowledge he can share with his siblings. “I’m able to help my younger sister and brother with their homework whenever may napapanood akong episode na connected sa lesson nila in school,” he said. (“I’m able to help my younger sister and brother with their homework whenever I watch an episode that is related to their lessons in school.”)
Yyna Daniela Virata, 17 years old, is an AB Mass Communication student from the University of Perpetual Help-Jonelta, GMA Campus. Other than being a huge fan of Drew, Yyna regularly watches ‘AHA!’ because the show is both fun and educational. “Informative and at the same time fun to watch. Natututo ka habang natutuwa ka,” she said. (“Informative and at the same time fun to watch. You learn while laughing.”)
‘AHA!’s’ episode about bones struck a chord with Yyna. “Nakaka-relate po ako kasi na-discuss ‘yung pangangalaga sa bones. May bone abnormality po kasi ako sa legs. Ayun ‘yung nag-mark sa akin nang todo.” (“I was able to relate to the bones episode because they discussed how to take care of one’s bones. I have a bone abnormality in my legs that’s why this episode made a mark on me.”)
Upon returning to GMA Network for lunch, our set visit winners were able to sneak in a photo op with ‘News to Go’ anchor and ‘I-Witness’ host Howie Severino.
Hidee Donque from Bulacan poses with Jenny the friendly orangutan at Ark Avilon Zoo. Asked why she loves watching ‘AHA!’ this 19-year-old BS Information Technology major from Bulacan State University explains, “I like the topics they feature. It’s mind-boosting and informative.”
Hidee’s favorite episode was ‘AHA!’s’ special on phobia which helped her to better understand the science behind people’s fears.
Our set visit winner Michael Mejia shows his AHA-dventurous side as he gets up close and personal with this albino python. Michael, 34 years old, is a salesman from SM Mall of Asia. He watches ‘AHA!’ every Sunday with his three-year-old kid.
“[Sa AHA,] hindi mahalaga kung matanda o bata ang nanonood kasi kada episode na ipinapalabas may mga paraan o bagay na may matututunan na puwede mong gamitin sa pang-araw-araw,” he said. (“It doesn’t matter if you’re old or young when watching ‘AHA!’ because in each episode, you learn new things which you can apply in your daily life.”)
Drew pretends to faint upon seeing the albino python behind him! Rising child star Lenlen Frial of Tropang Potchi and Futbolilits guest-hosted with Drew for this episode of AHA!
To cap off an AHA-mazing day at Ark Avilon Zoo, our winners Michael Mejia, Hidee Donque, and Hidee’s friend Ma. Alyssa Garcia pose one last time with Drew Arellano.
