PH Embassy says SoKor travel operational after brief martial law drama

The Philippine Embassy in South Korea announced that there were no existing border restrictions, flight suspensions or transportation suspensions in the country, after an hours-long martial law declaration earlier this week.

According to an advisory on Thursday, airports, seaports, trains or other modes of public transport are still operational.

“Filipinos are respectfully advised to observe the usual caution when traveling highly particularly in areas where public gatherings may occur,” the advisory read.

Earlier, the Department of Foreign Affairs advised that Filipinos in South Korea should remain calm amid the ongoing political tensions in the country.

DFA Undersecretary Eddie de Vega stated that there are no alert levels issued for South Korea and that it is not dangerous in the country at the moment.

The statements followed after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in a late night address on Tuesday night.

Yoon said it was necessary to eradicate "shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces."

The declaration was overturned hours later after a unanimous 190-0 parliamentary vote required him to lift the decree. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News
