Two Filipinos have been granted a P1.578 scholarship by UK-based education provider "Study Group" for their projects tackling divorce and overseas workers' safety.

Stephanie Jane Magbitang won first place with her project “DivorceDialogue,” which discusses business and advocacy to benefit her local community.

“It’s a dream come true! I’m grateful for the judges’ feedback and can’t wait to use this scholarship to further my studies at the University of Sheffield. I’m so grateful that applying through Study Group has given me access to scholarships like these to help me study in the UK,” Magtibang said.

Receiving a £8,000 or ?601,496.40 worth of scholarship, Magtibang will be attending her International Foundation Year at Study Group’s University of Sheffield International College in September.

She will then study law at the University of Sheffield in 2025.

Meanwhile, Crescia San Angel was granted £7,000 or ?526,309.35 worth of scholarship as she placed second.

Her project “Superheroes Need Saving Too: Innovative Dual-Chip Tracker and a Cross-Border Protection System for Overseas Workers” combines modern engineering with advocacy for the protection of overseas foreign workers.

San Angel will attend her International Foundation Year at Study Group’s Durham University International Study Centre in November and will proceed with her studies in International Relations at Durham University in 2025.

Magtibang and San Angel bested eight other finalists in the Next Generation Innovations in Malaysia, where they were granted scholarships.

The Next Generation Innovations is an inaugural international student competition of Study Group, which aims to “provide opportunities for driven students to secure scholarships for their higher education in the UK.”

The competition requires participants to create a 5,000-word project proposal on how they plan to use their higher education to make a difference in the world.

The finalists pitched their projects in a 15-minute presentation followed by a question and answer session.

“We are thrilled with the outcome of this year's competition. It is inspiring to witness the creativity and passion of these young minds. We at Study Group remain committed to ensuring that students around the world have increasing opportunities to access global higher education with our renowned partner schools,” said Elena Rodriguez-Falcón, chief academic officer of Study Group.
