8 Filipino seafarers back in PH after MV Solong mishap

Eight Filipino seafarers on board the container ship MV Solong, which collided with an oil tanker in England on March 10, returned to the Philippines on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday, the necessary assistance and support will be provided for the returning seafarers.
They were provided with financial assistance from both the Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA) and the DMW.
Meanwhile, one Filipino seafarer remains missing.
DMW has since reached out to provide assistance to the missing Filipino’s family.
Earlier, the DMW said that they were considering legal actions against the sea vessel due to possible negligence on part of MV Solong’s captain, who had recently appeared in court for charges of gross negligence manslaughter.
“We’re carefully looking into this, and definitely legal action will be forthcoming if our lawyers do find that there is a need to file a case,” said Cacdac. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
