Filipina migrant killed by husband in Slovenia

A Filipina marriage migrant was allegedly killed by her husband in Slovenia, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

According to a statement from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas on Friday, Marvil Facturan was reportedly killed by her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, during a vacation in Bled, Slovenia, on December 29.

"We extend our thoughts and prayers to Marvil's family. We stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence, seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived," the commission stated.

Senator Imee Marcos also condemned the crime in a statement on Saturday, describing it as an alleged act of domestic violence that occurred just a week after Facturan arrived in Slovenia.

“Walang puwang ang domestic violence sa isang maayos at makataong lipunan. Hindi dapat palagpasin ng Pilipinas ang anumang uri ng ganitong karahasan, dito man o sa ibang bansa,” Marcos said.

(There is no place for domestic violence in a just and humane society. The Philippines must not tolerate such violence, whether it happens here or abroad.)

Marcos urged the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, and other relevant agencies to ensure justice for Facturan.
