DMW to facilitate repatriation, assistance to pardoned OFWs in UAE
The Department of Migrant Workers said they are coordinating with the Migrant Worker’s Office (MWO) and the Philippine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to facilitate the repatriation of the 220 recently pardoned Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
In a statement issued Wednesday, the DMW expressed their gratitude to the UAE for granting the pardon and emphasized the role played by the friendship of the two countries.
“This very welcome gesture highlights the strong and enduring relationship between the Philippines and the UAE, a bond that was further reinforced in the recent meeting between His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in November 2024,” the statement read.
The DMW said that they are ready to work with their MWO and the Philippine Embassy in facilitating the repatriation of the OFWs and providing comprehensive support for their reintegration into the country.
“We look forward to welcoming our pardoned OFWs back home and supporting them in their paths toward full reintegration,” the statement read.
The detained OFWs were pardoned by the UAE in line with the UAE's 53rd National Day on December 2, 2024.
DFA Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro said that the pardon was granted ''in view of the distinguished friendship between the two countries.''
''It is the direct result of President Marcos' meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, last November,'' Lazaro said. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
