DMW, DFA work with Kuwait authorities on probe of slain OFW

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) are coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to investigate the death of Filipino domestic worker Dafnie Nacalaban.

The DMW also said in a Facebook post that Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed condolences to the family of Nacalaban, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who had been employed as a household service worker in Kuwait since December 2019.

Nacalaban was reported missing by her second employer in October 2024.

Her body was later discovered in the residence of a Kuwaiti individual, two months after her employer’s report.

In response to the incident, Senator Win Gatchalian urged the DMW and DFA to strengthen protection mechanisms for OFWs and revisit existing bilateral labor agreements with countries where migrant workers are particularly vulnerable.

“The killer must be held accountable, and our government must not rest until justice is served,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

The DMW confirmed that it is assisting Nacalaban’s family, including facilitating the repatriation of her remains to the Philippines. According to Cacdac, the repatriation process will proceed once Kuwaiti authorities conclude their investigation. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
