DMW: Last batch of Pinoy crew from Houthis-attacked ship now in PH

The last batch of Filipino crew members of the vessel attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea early this month have finally returned home on Wednesday afternoon.

Ten crewmen of M/V Minoan Courage arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 via Etihad Airways.

“They are the last batch of repatriated crew members from the 21 Filipino seafarers aboard the Greek bulker, which was struck by Houthi rebels on October 1, 2024, while traversing the Red Sea,” the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

“The preceding batches composing the 11 seafarers arrived home last October 9 and October 13, 2024.”

Their repatriation was through joint efforts of DMW, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the manning agencies, and the shipowner.

“The concerned manning agency also arranged hotel accommodations for the repatriated seafarers while they wait for their scheduled psychiatric evaluations,” the DMW said. “All of them will receive all the necessary assistance from the DMW AKSYON Fund and OWWA.” — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
