DMW: No Filipinos hurt, killed in latest Israeli strikes in Lebanon
There are no Filipino casualties in the latest Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Saturday.
“Sa ngayon wala tayong napapabalitaan na nasaktan o nasuwing Pilipino sa mga [latest] attack sa Lebanon,” DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said at a news forum in Quezon City.
“Sa awa ito ng Diyos, we're hoping it will stay that way,” he said.
More than 20 people and over 100 were reportedly killed and injured, respectively, following the twin Israeli airstrikes in two areas in Beirut.
Cacdac said the majority of 11,000 Filipinos in Lebanon are located in the capital Beirut.
The DMW chief said 178 Filipinos, who were evacuated, are currently in three Philippine-government operated shelters.
Reuters reported on Thursday that Israeli strikes have killed more than 2,100 people in Lebanon over the last year. The toll does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Reuters also reported that Hezbollah cross-border fire at Israel has killed 53 people, more than half of them civilians.
