OFWs stranded at NAIA after about 100 flights cancelled due to heavy rains
More than 100 flights were cancelled on Wednesday due to the effects of Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.
According to a 24 Oras report by Mav Gonzales, the majority of the cancelled flights were bound for Taiwan.
Manila International Airport Authority’s flight advisory at 2:45 p.m. stated that there had already been 114 cancelled flights across all NAIA Terminals.
Among the cancelled flights were domestic and international flights from Philippine Airlines, PAL Express, CEBGo, Cebu Pacific, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and EVA Air.
Delays and cancellations of flights have resulted in multiple passengers stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
NAIA Terminal 4 was also closed early due to flooding.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) have provided assistance to stranded OFWs who were not able to fly to Taiwan.
They added that a lot of OFWs became stranded due to cancelled connecting flights bound for the provinces.
OFWs may proceed to the NAIA 3 OFW Lounge, opened just last Friday, where they can get free food, drinks and charging stations.
“Assisted naman sila lahat. Not only sa lounge, but also OWWA notified our migrant workers offices sa Taiwan. They are assisting stranded [passengers] sa end nila. Of course, helping kung kailanganin ng monitoring slip or something ipakita sa employer nila,” said DMW Assistant Secretary Kiko de Guzman.
