4 OFWs safe from oil tankers on fire near Singapore - DMW

Four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been confirmed safe by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) following the Friday collision of two oil tankers that resulted in a fire near Singapore.

According to a ''24 Oras Weekend'' report on Saturday, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said that the four Filipino seafarers on board one of the tankers were safe.

The investigation showed that the tankers collided and caught fire on Friday morning.

The Singapore-flagged tanker Hafnia Nile and the Sao Tome and Principe-flagged tanker Ceres I were about 55 km (34 miles) northeast of the Singaporean island of Pedra Branca on the eastern approach to the Singapore Straits, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said.

Following the incident, two crew members were airlifted to a hospital, and others were rescued from liferafts.

All 62 crew members from both tankers were accounted for. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
