OWWA opens Seafarers' Hub in Manila

OWWA opens Seafarers' Hub in Manila

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration opened on Thursday its one-stop center to cater to all the needs of Filipino seafarers.

According to a briefer, the Seafarers' Hub in Manila will serve as an information center on the rights, privileges, and entitlements of sea-based overseas Filipino workers, as well as the services provided by OWWA and other government agencies them.

The hub would also facilitate walk-in legal assistance in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

The center would also serve as venue training and workshops.

“The hub addresses the critical need for comprehensive and dedicated support for OFW seafarers, ensuring their welfare and safety. This initiative aligns with the OWWA’s mandate and international commitments to protect labor rights and promote decent work for seafarers,” the briefer read.

Aside from providing assistance, seafarers can also relax in the hub with complimentary refreshers. They can also use the internet and complimentary local calls to contact their families and friends.

The Department of Migrant Workers earlier said that the country saw an all-time high deployment of seafarers with over 500,000 in 2023. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KBK, GMA Integrated News
