Filipino trafficking victims in Myanmar seeking repatriation —DFA

A group of Filipinos are now seeking to be repatriated from Myanmar after they were trafficked to work as "love" scammers, a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) official said.

According to JP Soriano’s report in Super Radyo dzBB on Friday, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said that the Filipinos were lured to work in Bangkok by pretending as tourists and from the Thai capital they were transported to Myanmar to work in crypto farms.

Rescue operations for the Filipinos are ongoing, the report said, citing De Vega.

The DFA reminded Filipino jobseekers that working abroad requires securing an overseas employment contract even in countries that do not have visa requirements.
