Illegal recruiter nabbed for offering bogus jobs in South Korea
Authorities apprehended a woman on Saturday who they believe defrauded three people with bogus employment offers.
According to the Department of Migrant Workers, victims Eugenio Carurucan Cruz, Ralph Alfred De Castro Vergarra, and Eugene John Cuz Dalit were promised jobs as seasonal farm workers in Jeju Island, South Korea, with a monthly salary of P80,000 by suspect Nenita Yumol Sanguilas on February 20, 2024.
Sanguilas allegedly required a P150,000 processing fee to ensure their departure on February 29.
The victims paid Sanguilas between P120,000 and P130,000 for the service, but even after a few months, they were still unable to leave.
This prompted them to file a complaint with the DMW.
“Nakumpirma nila na walang lisensya ito para mag-alok ng trabaho sa ibang bansa,” the statement read.
(They were able to confirm that she has no license to offer overseas jobs.)
The suspect was apprehended while accepting marked money from the victims during a joint entrapment operation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU), and the Department of Migrant Workers-Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (DMW-MWPB) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on Saturday morning.
Sanguilas is currently detained at the CIDG Detention Facility at Camp Crame and will be facing charges of large-scale illegal recruitment and estafa.
Meanwhile, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac encouraged other possible victims to file complaints. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
