UK urges Pinays to try scholarship for ASEAN women in STEM

Women in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, who want to pursue a master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields can take advantage of a newly launched program by the United Kingdom.

The program, the ASEAN-UK SAGE Women in STEM Scholarships, "aims to address gender disparities in STEM education and employment within ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste," according to a statement from the British Council.

The project will provide 11 successful female applicants from all ten ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste with a fully funded one-year opportunity for a master’s degree at the University of Warwick or Imperial College London.

The scholarship will cover stipends, travel costs, visas and health coverage fees in addition to the tuition fee.

“We take pride in taking the lead in implementing the ASEAN-UK SAGE Women in STEM Scholarships, aligning with the UK's priority to support women, girls and marginalized communities. We hope that this program opens more doors that would lead to meaningful impact, empowering women and advancing diversity and excellence,” said British Council Philippines Director Lotus Postrado.

The project will also support inspirational advocates and role models for women in STEM.

The applications for the ASEAN-UK SAGE Women in STEM Scholarships and the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM are open until middle of April this year.
