PH gov't to assist Filipina arrested in Tokyo

The Philippine government said on Sunday that they would provide the best legal defense for a Filipina arrested in Tokyo for allegedly abandoning two corpses.

"We are already geared up to provide legal assistance. We’re in coordination with the Japanese authorities that we intend to provide such legal and other forms of assistance to her," Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, officer-in-charge of the Department of Migrant Workers, said in a radio interview on Sunday morning.

His comment was made after the news that Hazel Ann Baguisa Morales, a 30-year-old Filipina, was arrested on suspicion of abandoning the bodies of Norihiro Takahashi, 55, and his wife Kimie, 52, at a  house in the capital's Adachi Ward around Tuesday.

According to The Japan Times, Morales used to date the couple's son, who is in his 30s and lived with his parents.

“Morales is believed to have been an acquaintance of the couple, has denied the allegations,” it reported.

The investigators are looking into whether Morales had any disagreements with the couple, as well as the causes of their deaths.

“They also believe another person was involved in the incident.”

The DMW, in collaboration with the related Philippine agencies, then vowed to “provide the best legal defense for her (Hazel), and we will also provide assistance to her family.”

“Hindi natin lulubayan ito, babantayan nanting maigi yung kaso,” he added.

Based on the initial information of the DMW, Morales is currently working in Tokyo.

Cacdac gave no  further details but he emphasized that the department was in constant communication with Japanese authorities. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
