Philippine passport ranks up to 73rd place in Henley's Passport Index

The Philippine passport has improved its ranking in the January 2024 Henley Passport Index, landing at 73rd place from 74th last year.

The Philippines clinched the spot as the 73rd most powerful passport along with Cape Verde Islands and Uganda, having visa-free access to 69 destinations.

The index, which is updated monthly, is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations.

Ranking first in the index are the passports of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.

They were followed by passports from Finland, South Korea, and Sweden at rank number two; and Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and Netherlands at rank number three.

World powerhouse such as the United States, United Kingdom, and China ranked seventh, fourth, and 62nd, respectively.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan remains the least powerful passport at rank 104 based on the latest index.

In July 2023, the Philippines ranked 74th with visa-free access to 66 destinations.

According to the website of Henley & Partners, each passport is scored on the total number of destinations that the holder can access visa-free. A score of 1 is provided to a certain passport for each travel destination, if it requires no visa.
