OFW Angelyn Aguirre's remains arrive in the Philippines
The remains of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died in Israel after refusing to leave her elderly patient behind amid the October 7 Hamas attacks arrived in the Philippines on Friday, November 3.
The body of 33-year-old Angelyn Aguirre landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) past 3 p.m. aboard Etihad Airways Flight EY 424, according to Sam Nielsen’s report on Super Radyo dzBB.
Sandra Aguinaldo’s report on “24 Oras” showed an emotional scene after the bereaved family including Aguirre's husband, siblings, and aunt broke down in tears after receiving her remains.
Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said they would assist in transferring the Filipina nurse’s remains to Pangasinan.
OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio previously said a hero’s welcome was being prepared for Aguirre, who died after choosing to stay alongside her elderly patient as gunmen shot up a bomb shelter in Israel.
Ignacio also said they would help prepare her resting place in the province.
Four Filipinos were confirmed to have died from the ongoing conflict in Israel: Loreta Alacre, 49; Paul Vincent Castelvi, a 42-year-old caregiver; Grace Prodigo Cabrera; and Aguirre.
Cabrera’s remains were set to return to the country on Sunday, November 5.
Meanwhile, Alacre’s body was repatriated to the Philippines earlier while Castelvi was cremated in Tel Aviv. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
