Envy possible motive for killing OFW Marjorette Garcia - OWWA

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said on Saturday that an investigation by Saudi Arabian authorities indicated that OFW Marjorette Garcia may have been murdered out of envy.

According to a ''24 Oras Weekend'' report by Russel Simorio on Saturday, a Kenyan national who is Garcia's fellow worker was identified as the suspect in the killing.  

“Nagkaroon ng parang inggitan. So una, hiniwalay ng kwarto hanggang sa tinerminate na. Sa kasamaang palad, bumalik daw ito, pinutol yung mga CCTV at ginawa yung krimen,” OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio said. 

(It appears that the suspect was envious. At first, the suspect was placed in a separate room until that person was terminated. Unfortunately, the suspect returned to their workplace, destroyed the CCTV equipment, and carried out the crime.) 

Garcia, 32, was found dead with stab wounds last month. 

The domestic worker's remains arrived in the Philippines on Friday. She was given a hero's welcome in her hometown, San Jacinto, Pangasinan.

On Saturday, DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac and Ignacio visited Garcia's wake and assured her family that the government would closely follow the case.

“The case has already been referred for litigation, and we have engaged the services of a competent lawyer to represent Marjorette’s interests in the proceedings,” Cacdac said. 

The government also extended financial assistance worth P220,000 to Garcia's family and scholarships for her two children. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
