Remains of slain OFW Marjorette Garcia arrive in PH

The body of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was killed in Saudi Arabia arrived in the Philippines on Friday morning, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Friday.

"Marjorette is home. Through the combined efforts of our Embassy in Saudi Arabia, our Migrant Workers Office, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, we have brought her home to rest," DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said in a statement.

"It is with broken hearts that we mourn her loss, that we bring her home in this manner, the victim of one senseless act of violence we have yet to comprehend," he added.

In an interview on Unang Balita earlier in the day, Cacdac said the suspect in Garcia’s killing was a Kenyan national who was her co-worker, based on the official charge sheet from the concerned prosecutor’s office.

Garcia, 32, was found dead in Saudi Arabia late last month. She was last able to talk to her family on September 15, 2023.

The slain OFW's family is now seeking the government's help in seeking justice for her.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will handle the family’s travel expenses to Metro Manila to take Garcia’s body home once it arrives in the Philippines. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
